I’m All Shook Up

October 10-18, 2013

SIT left Missouri and kept on truckin’ along the Mississippi River. We spent a couple of nights at a State park near Olive Branch Illinois.  This location did have water so Izzy was happy but we weren’t too thrilled since after she would go swimming she had to get a bath. You get the picture.

Just Hanging Out

We left this spot with the intention to see Memphis. We decided to stay in West Memphis Arkansas since it was just across the river from Memphis and Izzy could have a place to go. Yap her very own swimming hole. The RV park is Tom Sawyer’s so we thought we might be able to catch some fish, however the river access wasn’t good plus the ability to catch your line on tons of stuff other than fish was prevalent. Oh well, we still have fish in the freezer.

The objective of hanging out in the Memphis area was to see Graceland. Before we headed there we checked out Memphis and walked around Beale Street which is pretty famous. Plenty of famous musicians played here and obviously Elvis was one of them.

Willie Who?

They are also known for their food which we did have to sample. We landed at O’Sullivan’s which not only had great barbeque but also great live music. One could stay here all day just relaxing and listening.  You would have been in good company years ago as Bob Hope and others marked their time there.

The next day we headed to Graceland. I wasn’t necessarily into listening to Elvis when I was growing up but he had great musical and acting talent. He purchased Graceland when he was just 22 years old and it already had that name so he kept it. The tour you take is very well done and you can take pictures so we took quite a bit but I decided to only show you a few from inside the house.

We were quite impressed that it wasn’t huge and wasn’t decorated with a lot of rich things, although there were a few uniquely decorated rooms.

Part of the area also has a car museum, the airplanes he owned, and a couple of museums. So we decided to see them and get a complete history under our belts.  The car museum has a few cars we wouldn’t mind taking around the block!

The Lisa Marie plane is open for you to tour as well. The story they tell you is that Lisa Marie had her 9th birthday at 40,000 feet in the air.  I have had a few birthdays in the air as well, just not on a private jet!

The Fast Way to Travel
As we wandered around I about fainted, since Elvis was dead but you actually see him! I’m not kidding. I guess those rumors of him being still alive are quite true. This picture is proof of that isn’t it?

Hurry Up and Get It Over With Tory

Steve was a little perturbed at me for going gaga over Elvis but what the heck you only live once!

The other thing we were able to do was play golf on a golf course that is over 100 years old. It was a beautiful course and the houses near it are estates.

A Beautiful Setting

Glad I didn't hit this tree

Izzy had some fun too since she couldn’t go see Elvis or wander aimlessly on Beale Street. She never seems to get bored with this stuff.

The location also allowed you to just wander along the river and watch the traffic. The river is quite busy all day and night with barges moving everything from coal, metal, and crops to places all along the river.

Our View
The beauty and tranquility is pretty nice here, however we had to move on but first the trailer needed new tires since we suffered a blow-out on the drive to West Memphis. I was glad it was only one tire that decided to go pop especially since I was driving!

The next spot for SIT is Vicksburg Mississippi so stay tuned.
