March Madness SIT Style

March 2017

It is April 1st and I am trying to imagine what ever happened to March. It’s a good thing I take pictures every now-and-then otherwise I think I would forget what we have been up to the past month.

We haven’t been playing basketball but have managed to play some golf and take a few walks in a couple new areas that aren’t very far from home.

We went hiking around a lake that is just off the highway out of town from us. It is a place called the Indrio Savannahs which has about 3 ½ miles of paths. It is a great birding area as well as a catch and release fishing spot. We didn’t bring our poles but we did encounter a gentleman that told us about the Scrub Jays. He gave us some sunflower seeds and said if you start talking they might just come and eat.

Well that was all Steve needed to start talking like a bird (we won’t go into it any more than that) but you know it worked. One was brave enough out of about six that were hanging out to come feed from his hand. Pretty cool! When I tried they stayed away. I would like to think it was because they were all too full and not that there was this crazy short person making noise.

Thanks for the seeds mister

Another week we hiked this other area that is only a few miles from our place. Izzy came with us this time and had fun sniffing the new territory. We didn’t see any unusual wildlife but did find interesting bowls along the path. It is all that remains from a palm tree living there.

Vero Beach had a great car show one weekend so we ventured out. There were a lot of cars there and some we had never heard of before. A few were for sale but just weren’t in our price range. I could have taken many more pictures but didn’t want to be there until midnight. Here are just a few of the eye candy!

One of the times we played golf we managed to play the Lakes Course at Sandridge Golf Club. We have played at Sandridge a few times since we have been back but it has been on their Dunes course. We decided to splurge and play The Lakes on our wedding anniversary. We had fun and tried to stay out of the water, especially where this guy was cruising.

I tackled another small project and gave a lamp a new look. The lamp was a light tan colored (wood) with a sunflower lamp shade. You are probably thinking thank goodness this girl can paint! Me too!

I also gave this frog a fresh look as well – he was pretty sad looking and had suffered an injury thanks to Izzy. Needless to say he now has a wooden arm! Izzy didn’t mean to break his arm off and of course licked him to make him feel better.

Well we did other things in-between but be grateful I don’t take pictures of everything -every day! SIT is winding down our time in Florida and will be “on the road again soon.” Stay tuned for the trip west.

Makeover Anybody?

February 2017

It is hard to believe it is already past the middle of March. I haven’t forgotten about writing and keeping everybody entertained from Florida, I just haven’t taken time to sit down and write something.

We have been busy the past six weeks with continuing our beach bungalow makeover. As I wrote last time I was tackling a few more projects. The most time consuming one was changing how some cabinets and a counter look that are in the dining area.

The process is time consuming but that’s okay as my joints don’t appreciate me just lounging around the pool all day. So I tackled the cleaning, shellacking, painting, painting, painting……well you get the picture. It takes several steps to complete the project. I am glad there weren’t any more than what I tackled though. I was ready to lounge around the pool by the time I was all done!

Cabinets Reborn

Steve decided to go ahead and class-up the wall and toe-kick a bit and now it ties nicely with the wall in the living room. We decided to darken the counter top as before it didn’t quite have that punch. So I took the steps and painted it as well. End result – adds to the beach bungalow!

Looks Better

Steve and I managed to play golf, well we would like to think it is playing and not hacking. Regardless we usually get to see some wildlife and this time we came across this rather large alligator. We have decided to call him Humphrey since he has a pretty large humped back. These birds were also hanging out as we cruised by on some of the other holes.

We also were able to enjoy having one of my brothers here for a week in mid-February. Mike and I headed to Largo to visit our Uncle Al. Mike had not seen Uncle Al for over 35 years so it was fun to catch up. Uncle Al is slowing down just a bit but I think that’s okay since he will be 97 in August.

We had a nice time playing golf, doing a little boating, and going to Kennedy Space Center.  Golf was fun and we chose one we could walk and play. We didn’t see any large alligators on this course but told Mike about Humphrey so we drove by that course so he could see him. He managed to get a few pictures as well.

We headed to the boardwalk and beach one day and enjoyed the weather. There were just about as many birds hanging out as there were people. This guy wasn’t too worried about the foot traffic.

All in all time has flown by since I last updated everybody and I know the next few weeks will go by fast but as always stay tuned for more from SIT!

Something Old Something New

January 2017

Life continues to roll for SIT in 2017. If you recall I had mentioned more about the wall and my new projects last I wrote.  This post reveals all! Well not all, what would I tell you about next time if I did that!

The something old has to do with fishing and projects. We were able to get out fishing one day when the water was calm enough for us to fish along the rock jetty at the inlet. We caught a variety of fish that day but one new species for us. It is called a “look-down” fish. Don’t know why but I would assume it looks down when it swims. Maybe it is a bit klutzy like me and needs to watch carefully so it doesn’t bump into things! Anyway they were fun to catch and both of us enjoyed the fight they provided. They were returned to the water to pursue their own adventures.

Look I caught one too

On the way in to the boat ramp we stopped and fished in the shade of a barge that was anchored. I hooked something that felt like jaws. Well it made me reel for quite some time. It was a skip jack but the biggest one we have caught to date. They are not good eating fish so it was sent back to swim off into the shade!

Keeping An Eye On Us

We have also managed to play golf and enjoy some more walks. This flat bill was hanging out with us at a tee box. First one we have seen this time around. Izzy has also been able to come out and play, a walk at the jetty, and then fun at the dog beach.

The feature wall in the house began and finished. It looks pretty nice and adds a bit more character to the room. Izzy had to inspect since she is the foreman on all our projects. We are slowly finding decorating treasures to enhance the wall.

My new adventure has been taking a couple of classes and then taking what I have learned and applying it. You are wondering what it is, aren’t you? Well it is all about chalk paint.

So we bought four chairs from the Habitat for Humanity Restore place. Two matched and two did not. Then I tackled them and gave them new life. Two of them I reupholstered and two, I just cleaned the fabric. It has been fun learning new techniques and I will be tackling a few more projects with my new knowledge as well as getting my painting going again.

So now you know what has been happening in our world. Steve is contributing to this by finding treasures and saying you can paint this can’t you? So that’s your teaser to stay tuned for more from SIT!
